Preparing for your tattoo session
Here’s everything you need to know to feel confident, comfortable, and ready for your tattoo session!
eat a good breakfast the day of
Eat a proper meal before your appointment — seriously!
A granola bar isn’t enough.
Coffee is lovely, but not a meal.
Your body needs real fuel to stay strong and steady.
Comfort Essentials
Snacks & Drinks
Bring light snacks and water to stay energized.
Avoid salty foods and too much caffeine — they can mess with your blood sugar and make you feel anxious or nauseous.
Entertainment
A book, magazine, or headphones for music/podcasts can help pass the time and keep you relaxed.
If you are using electronics, make sure they are charged!
Clothing
Wear loose, comfy clothes that give easy access to the tattoo area.
Bring a Sweater or jacket (blankets work too!) as it can get chilly during sessions — cozy up if you need to!
Preparing Your Skin - Start 7 Days Before
Healthy skin means better healing. Preparation is critical to aftercare and a bright tattoo!
Gently Exfoliate
Use a mild scrub with natural ingredients (sugar, salt, fruit enzymes).
Avoid harsh scrubs with microbeads or sharp particles.
Exfoliating helps your skin absorb moisture and heal more effectively.
Moisturize Daily
Apply moisturizer after showers (on damp skin!) and before bed.
Choose products with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides.
Avoid moisturizers with alcohol, fragrances, or harsh chemicals.
Match your moisturizer to your skin type (dry, oily, combo).
Protect from the Sun
No sunburns, please! I can’t tattoo over damaged skin.
Use sunscreen if you need to — yes, even in Alaska! Especially if you’re out fishing, hiking, or vacationing.
Hydrate
Drink plenty of water — aim for 8 glasses a day.
Signs of dehydration: dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, dark urine.
Hydrated skin heals faster and looks better!
What to Avoid Before Your Appointment
Alcohol
No drinking for at least 24 hours before your session. It thins your blood and makes tattooing harder.
Caffeine
Limit it — too much can increase sensitivity and anxiety.
Blood-Thinning Medications
Aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve should be avoided if possible. If you’re on medication, please check with me first.
Being Sick
If you’re under the weather, reschedule! Your body needs its strength to heal, and I’d prefer not to catch anything either — thank you!
